The Bet

Winnipeg Jets bet

Here in Winnipeg, we love hockey. We skate for fun with family, play pick-up games with friends at our local community centers, and we watch the Winnipeg Jets. Like…a lot.

So when Spike’s K9 Fund founder, Jim Hatch, decided to boast that the Carolina Hurricanes (his favorite team) would be decisively better than our Jets this year, we did what any loyal sports fan would do.

We made a bet.

The rules are simple. At the end of the 2017-2018 regular season, we are going to take a look at the standings and see who has more overall points between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Winnipeg Jets.

If the Hurricanes are better: Jeff and Riley Slater from K9 Storm will go to Norfolk, Virginia, and skydive with Jimmy wearing a Spike’s K9 Fund shirt and Hurricanes Hat.

If the Jets are better: Jimmy will come to Winnipeg in January and skate down our “polluted” Red River Trail at The Forks in a Jets jersey and K9 Storm Toque.

You might be thinking to yourself “Skydiving is a lot more dangerous than skating!” but consider this, Jimmy has done hundreds of parachute deployments both during his military service and simply for fun. He’s a seasoned vet who has no problem jumping out of a jet. Jeff and Riley? Not so much.

One thing he’s never done though is strapped on a pair of skates. Couple this with the fact that one of his legs was injured during a deployment overseas, and it makes for quite a terrifying experience! You never know though. Maybe a few Jets players could teach him a thing or two after they kick the crap out of the Hurricanes this year!

The Jets play the Hurricanes in Winnipeg on October 14th, and we will be cheering them on LIVE at Bell MTS Place!

GO JETS GO!
