Changing of the Guard
Est. Read Time: 2 Mins.
A red turn signal flashes on your car as you pull into the driveway of your home. It’s the early hours of the morning and you and your working dog have just completed another eventful night. You take off your dog’s dirt plastered black K9 Storm Patrol Swat Vest and hang it up proudly in the back of the truck before she settles in for breakfast. Out in your yard, you graciously fill up her bowl and notice the sun as it starts to peak out above the trees. The rays warm the frost-bitten grass beneath your feet as you take in one deep calming breath. Another safe and successful night shift is officially in the books.
But your work is far from over. In fact, it’s just getting started.
The familiar *clang* of your working dog aggressively licking the metal feeding bowl jolts you back to reality. Trying not to wake anyone, you cautiously move toward the back door and stealthily turn the handle, only to realize that somebody is already there to greet you.
It’s not your spouse.
Or your kids.
Or even the household cat.
It’s your small and lovable family dog. A welcoming party of one.
Without taking off your boots, you reach up and grab his blue K9 Storm Mini Harness that is hanging beside the winter coats above the shoe rack. The little man’s tail wags furiously as you guide his head through the neck opening. In anticipation, he raises his right arm through the shoulder opening to help speed up the process. With his gear successfully on, you head back out together into the brisk morning air.
Your working dog has now finished her breakfast and is laying peacefully in her kennel run. As you pass, you swear she raises her head just a smidge, offering a modest nod of approval to her pint-sized sibling. Your small dog notices too and walks just a little taller as if to say, “rest easy sis, I’ll take it from here”.
Day shift has officially begun. With the changing of the guard now complete, you confidently start down the path towards the park, ready to Storm Through Anything™.
